June 12 - Time of the Church

Psalm 51 - "Then I will teach transgressors your ways..." Even as David's sin is a matter between him and God, God's restoration never stays simply between the two of them. God's grace drives David to teach others of the mercy of God. This Psalm is intensely personal, and yet universal in its scope.

Proverbs 10:1-23 - Reading this many verses in a row from Proverbs can start having the redundancy affect. In fact, much of it seems obvious. This collection of proverbs was probably not meant to be read in huge chunks, but rather meditated on in its parts. The words that are obvious to our minds have to make the transition to becoming habits in our lives. Wisdom isn't just something you know, but is intended to permeate all that you are. This makes the connection of Jesus as our wisdom even more profound.

John 14:1-17 - How seriously do we take Jesus' promise here? "If you ask anything in my name I will do it." Of course some of us get confused into thinking he said "ask anything you want," but there's also a strain of thought that leads to us to think we shouldn't ask anything. Jesus invites us to pray boldly for our needs, our neighbors and the coming of his kingdom.
