This chapter has a cat and mouse game going on between Saul and David. It can be entertaining to get caught up in the story itself, but hard to see connections between this story and the greater story of God's activity. God's preservation of David and David's practical exile from Israel is kind of foreshadowing of Israel's exile to Babylon. In both circumstances God preserves his people so that they can praise Him and speak of His mighty works to the world. This is also what God is doing for us as we await Christ's return and new creation. It can often feel like we're running scared, but in fact, God is moving us to His purposes and preserves us, so that we might speak of His mighty works to the world around us.
